Current dissertations at IPS

Our PhD projects – supervised by Prof. Dr. Sophie Schramm – are conducted by German and international young researchers that bring together diverse perspectives on urban change and planning from across the world.

Our current PhD projects are:

  • Dorcas Nthoki Nyamai: Inclusive Transport and Socio-Spatial Justice: Prospects of Non-Motorized Transport in Nairobi. Supervision: Prof. Dr. Sophie Schramm.
  • Nick Nowara: Incremental Housing and Housing Co-production in the Barriadas of Lima, Peru. Supervision: Prof. Dr. Sophie Schramm.
  • Moritz Kasper: Water tanks, jerry cans, power banks: Artefacts and practices of storage as part of heterogeneous infrastructure configurations in Nairobi. Supervision: Prof. Dr. Sophie Schramm. 
  • Lazarus Jambadu: Assessment of infra­structure repairs and maintenance of water utilites companies in Accra and Dar Salaam cities. Supervision: Prof. Dr. Sophie Schramm.
  • Francis Dakyaga: Everyday Practices and self-governance of Water Infrastructure in Peri-urban Dar es Salaam. Supervision: Prof. Dr. Sophie Schramm.
  • Jackline Kabahinda: Title to be confirmed. Supervision: Prof. Dr. Sophie Schramm.
