Guest Lecture as Part of the SPRING International Planning Sessions

Title: Water governance under a mineral rush
Speaker: Prof. Bossissi Nkuba
Date: Monday, June 15, 2026
Time: 2:00 – 4:00 pm
Location: GB I, Room 410
Why do some communities have clean water while others don’t—especially in regions rich in valuable minerals? This lecture introduces participants to the fascinating and often overlooked links between water, mining, and everyday life in fast-growing cities. The lecture combines insights from environmental science and social sciences to show that water problems are not only technical, but also deeply political and social.
Prof. Dr. Bossissi Nkuba is a Professor of Resource Governance at the University of Antwerp (IOB), the Royal Museum for Central Africa, and the Université Catholiquede Bukavu. His research focuses on natural resource governance, with particular attention to water quality, access, and pollution in mining regions, especially in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He leads the WATERRUSH project and is also the director of the award-winning documentary Cobalt Rush.
The event is open to students, doctoral researchers, and all interested colleagues.
We look forward to your participation!
