The first ever African Transport Research Conference was held in Cape Town, South Africa from 5th to 7th March 2024. The conference brought together interesting and relevant opportunities for advancing transport research and solutions in Africa and for the African context.

Hosted by the University of Cape Town in partnership with the Volvo Research and Educational Foundation (VREF), the conference provided a platform for scholars, practitioners and international organisations such as UNEP to explore innovative avenues in addressing transportation challenges across the continent.

Among the participants was Nthoki D. Nyamai from IPS who presented her research on ‘Assessing spatial justice in urban mobility through shared risks and misfortunes’. Additionally, she chaired a session, facilitating discussions on Child Mobility.

This pioneering conference opened the avenue for future conferences that will bring together African researchers on transportation issues in Africa.
